Thad Davis was an avid runner who ran in 698 competitive races and 16 marathons all after he began running at the young age of 48. Thad was a big supporter of the Amanda-Clearcreek Schools, AC sports, and the Amanda community. Thad started the Amanda 5 Miler in 1975, which was long remembered as the first road race in Fairfield County. For over 20 years, he, along with others, carried the torch from Lancaster to Amanda at the opening ceremonies for the Amanda Special Olympics. The Thad Davis Relays were organized in 1995 at the Amanda-Clearcreek High School and is held annually every spring. In 2007, at age 80, Thad was a national medal winner in the 5K at the National Senior Olympics in Louisville, KY.
Thad will long be remembered for his competitive spirit and his welcoming smile. This event is a way to continue that spirit through the health and well being of the AC community.
